May 6, 2008
The Oklahoma Center for Arts Education (OCAE) at the University of Central Oklahoma will present its fourth annual "Connecting to American Indian Learners Conference" from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., May 17, at the Nigh University Center.
The conference focuses on teaching different ways to integrate the history of American Indian art and language into the K-12 core curriculum.
"Our goal is to address the issues of American Indian students and their relationships with faculty and curriculum content," said OCAE program manager Ines Burnham.
"We have over a dozen speakers representing various tribes who will speak about everything from tribal culture and history to tribal integration challenges."
In addition, Oklahoma state representative and Cherokee Native American Shane Jett will give the keynote address.
A certificate of completion will be given at the end of the conference to each participant and one hour of university credit is available, where applicable.
Registration is $75 per person, which includes all meals and make and take materials.
For more information or to register for this event, contact Ines Burnham, OCAE program manager, at (405) 216-2588 or online at iburnham@ucok.edu.
