March 27, 2008

Internationally renowned pianist Valery Kuleshov will perform selections from Modest Mussorgsky's opera "Sorochintsy Fair" and the concert suite from the ballet "The Nutcracker" among other selections at 3 p.m., April 13, at Mitchell Hall Theater on UCO's campus.

Kuleshov serves as an Artist-in-Residence for UCO's College of Arts, Media & Design and has studied with some of the world's most acclaimed musicians, such as Dmitry Bashkirov, Vladimir Tropp, Karl Ulrich Schnabel and Leon Fleischer. Among his many awards, Kuleshov won the silver medal at the 1993 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition.

His international performance career includes appearances in Russia, New Zealand, Japan, and the Dominican Republic, as well as throughout Europe and both North and South America.

The New York Times has described Kuleshov as an artist whose fingers "negotiate the virtuoso repertory," possessing "the musicality and imagination to make the most familiar music sound fresh and compelling."

Tickets to the performance are $20 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $7 for non-UCO students and children.
