UCO Symphonic Band to Perform Spring Concert March 12
Feb 27, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music will present an evening of music with a concert by UCO's Symphonic Band, at 7:30 p.m., March 12 in Mitchell Hall Theater.
The collection of featured numbers to be performed includes "Sea Song," "Waves," "New Dawn," "Americans We" and "Ride."
"Sea Song," by Ralph Vaughn Williams, is a single-movement composition based on three English sailing songs, originally written for British military, while Brian Balmages' "Waves" is a symbolic and lyrical work that conjures images of the tranquility of the sea.
Ronald Barrett's "New Dawn" tells the story of the mission of the Enola Gay, an aircraft whose name is etched in history as the vessel that delivered the world's first atomic bomb.
Described as a "vivacious and appealing" march, "Americans We," by Henry Fillmore has the qualities characterized by Fillmore's life as a renowned public performer, and the score to Samuel R. Harzo's "Ride" describes the composer's wild ride down country roads with his good friend Jack Stamp, director of bands at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Tickets to UCO's Symphonic Band concert are $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $7 for non-UCO students and children.
