Sixth Anniversary Concert at UCO Jazz Lab to Feature Vocal Jazz - Pop Sensation M-Pact
Feb 28, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab will celebrate its sixth anniversary with a concert by m-pact, one of the nation's top vocal jazz and pop ensembles at 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 12.
Hailed as "one of the best pop-jazz vocal groups in the world," by the San Francisco Chronicle, m-pact is respected worldwide as a cutting edge trailblazer in the realm of vocal music. Their sophisticated sound has garnered vast accolades, from "Vocal Group of the Year" from the Los Angeles, CA Music Awards to "Grand National Champs" of the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella competition, the premier American showcase for vocal harmony music.
The group has performed with such notable jazz and pop superstars as Sheryl Crow, Boyz II Men, Kenny G, Babyface, Ray Charles and Natalie Cole.
"This group has been called the 'Cirque du Soleil of Song' for good reason," said Lee Rucker, Jazz Lab director.
"Their vocal acrobatics and innovative orchestrations are outstanding. We couldn't be more pleased to have them performing for our anniversary concert."
The Jazz Lab, located at the corner of Fifth and Littler in Edmond, opened six years ago and houses the UCO Jazz Studies Program and the UCO Jazz Lab recording studio. It features live music every Thursday through Saturday nights.
Since opening, the Lab has hosted such musical greats as Chris Botti, George Winston, Wynton Marsalis, Diane Schuur and Judy Collins.
Tickets to the concert are $20 for adults and $10 for children. For more
