UCO Symphonic and University Choir Concert to Feature the Schubert Mass in G Major
Feb 28, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music will present a joint concert featuring the UCO Symphony and the UCO University Choirs at 7:30 p.m., March 11 in Mitchell Hall Theater.
Featured combined performances include the Schubert Mass in G Major and Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition."
"I'm delighted to be collaborating with the Concert Chorale in Schubert's Mass in G Major," said Ralph Morris, director of the UCO Symphony.
"This mass is a very popular, very lovely work that I know the audience will thoroughly enjoy."
In addition to the Concert Chorale, who will perform music from their upcoming tour to Italy in May, UCO's Chamber Singers and Cantilena will also perform.
Conducted by Karl Nelson, the choirs will perform "Ave Maria," "Gesange fur Frauenchor" and "The Eyes of All Wait Upon Thee." "Pictures at an Exhibition" is an orchestral showpiece originally written for the piano, one of Mussorgsky's musical impressions of a number of paintings.
Several composers have written orchestrations of the original score. UCO's Symphony will perform Maurice Ravel's orchestration, which is a version Morris describes as "a very challenging undertaking, but full of color and energy, a real crowd pleaser."
Tickets to the concert are $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $7 for non-UCO students and children.
