UCO Chamber Concert to Feature Oklahoma Premiere of "Elegy for Cello and Piano"
February 14, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will present a chamber orchestra concert, featuring cellist Dr. Tess Remy-Schumacher, accompanied by pianist Margaret Brisch performing the Oklahoma premiere of composer Carol Worthey's "Elegy for Cello and Piano," at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 25 at the UCO Jazz Lab.
"Elegy for Cello and Piano" is a musical enactment of the events of September 11 and has been performed to critical acclaim around the country.
"It's meant to be a heartfelt tribute to those lost and those left behind," said Remy-Schumacher. "It's a passionate piece that the audience should love."
Remy-Schumacher has been a concert soloist for several years, performing in Asia, Australia, Europe and the U.S. She has performed in such notable concert venues as Wigmore Hall in London, Jubilee Hall in Singapore and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Other works to be performed at this concert include "Hommage a Brahms for Clarinet, Cello and Piano," written by UCO Composer-in-Residence, Dr. Sam Magrill, and "Trio for Piano, Violin and Cello op. 9," by Rachmaninoff.
The concert is free but donations to the recently established Remy-Schumacher string scholarship are greatly appreciated.
