UCO Wind Symphony to Present "Wildflowers and Serenades"
April 24, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma's Wind Symphony will present its spring concert "Wildflowers and Serenades," at 7:30 p.m., May 1, at Mitchell Hall Theater.
Conducted by UCO director of bands Dr. Brian Lamb, "Wildflowers and Serenades" will move the audience through an evening of musical gems and serenades.
Lamb said the program is intended to give the audience an evening reminiscent of good company, warm conversation, laughter and intimate thoughts reserved only for the closest of friends.
The night will open with the strains of Don Freund's "Jug Blues & Fat Pickin'" highlighting harmonica blues and exciting banjo picking, followed by the melodic sounds of Brahms "A Lovely Rose is Blooming."
Joseph Schwantner's "In Evening's Stillness" will bring thoughts of quiet and comfortable conversation, with the moving folksongs and stories of Percy Grainger's "Lincolnshire Posy" bringing the concert to an end.
Dedicated to playing challenging works of diverse and original styles, the UCO Wind Symphony strives to further wind music of artistic and historical significance.
In 2006, the Symphony performed in New York City's prestigious Carnegie Hall.
Tickets to the concert are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $6 for non-UCO students and children.
