UCO Symphonic Band Concert to Feature Historical Military Music
April 16, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music will offer the community an evening of classic military band music with a concert by the UCO Symphonic Band at 7:30 p.m., April 30, in UCO's Mitchell Hall Theater.
The collection of featured pieces will utilize period instruments to create a historical journey through time with performances of, "Weihemarsch," "Militar Music," and "Second Suite in F."
The program will begin with Maresch's "Weihemarsch," one of the first marches composed for military band. Immediately following will be Christian Rummel's "Militar Music," which is a military march said to offer "rare and invaluable insights into the practical literature of early 19th Century military band music."
A three-movement piece, Gustav Holst's "Second Suite in F" will close the concert, using an essence of folk song and folk dance tunes considered to be a staple of military band music.
Both "Weihemarsch" and the "Militar Music" suite will also feature performances by selected UCO faculty members.
Tickets to UCO's Symphonic Band concert are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $6 for non-UCO students and children.
