April 22, 2008symphony

The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music will present an evening of classical music with a concert by UCO's Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, at 7:30 p.m., April 29, in Mitchell Hall Theater.

The concert will include a variety of classical favorites, highlighting conduction by Dr. John Clinton, dean of UCO's College of Arts, Media & Design, and conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra since 1992.

Also featured will be solo performances by student winners of the UCO Symphony Concerto Competition.

UCO's Symphony Orchestra will perform Haydn's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra in C Major, accompanied by Soloist Bogdan Asanovic on cello, Leo Delibes' "Indian Bell Song" from his opera "Lakme," featuring vocalist Shannon Love and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's String Symphony No. 8 in D-major.

Delibes' "Indian Bell Song," is an aria that has been hailed for its "exotic musical colors and spectacular, high coloratura," and Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Symphony No. 8 is known for its adherence and clarity to classical ideals.

Featured numbers to be performed by the chamber orchestra include Mozart's Concerto No. 3 for Horn and Orchestra with horn soloist Craig Engel and Haydn's Symphony No. 44 in E-minor. Clinton will conduct both chamber orchestra performances.

Tickets to UCO's Symphony and Chamber Orchestra concert are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, $4 for UCO students and $6 for non-UCO students and children.
