Outstanding Fine Arts Major Komuro Honored as UCO Class Marshal

International student and Japanese native Sachiko Komuro, of Edmond, will represent the University of Central Oklahoma's College of Arts, Media and Design as Class Marshal during UCO's Spring 2008 commencement ceremonies, May 9-10, at UCO's Hamilton Field House.

Komuro, who is graduating with a 4.0 grade point average, is one of five UCO students who earned Class Marshal titles for achieving the highest academic records within their respective colleges while pursuing academic careers at UCO.

A Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts major concentrating on design and technology, she is native of Yokosuka, Japan and three-time recipient of the International Honor Scholarship.
Komuro says that her time at UCO has been one of tremendous value, enriching her life with discovery and growth.

"UCO has taken me to other states and to national competitions. I've made lifelong friends and explored many other cultures. In my four years at UCO I have grown in knowledge, maturity and strength of character and this is mostly due to the excellent staff and opportunities that are synonymous with their theatre program," she said.

With future plans to earn a Masters degree in costume design at the University of Connecticut, she hopes to utilize her skills in design to continue her pursuit of creative expression.

UCO's five Class Marshals will wear special stoles during the spring commencement, signifying the highest degree of academic excellence.

First presented in the fall of 1994, the Class Marshal title for excellence has become a UCO tradition.
