UCO Choral Concert to Highlight A Capella, Spiritual and Original Performances
April 11, 2008
The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music will showcase three choirs in a diverse concert that will include everything from original songs to a cappella music at 7:30 p.m., April 25, at the First Christian Church in Edmond.
The Concert Chorale, making its final performance of the year before its upcoming tour to Italy, will sing a cappella music from all ages, including Herman Schein's 1623 motet, "Die mit Tranen saen" and an original song composed for the ensemble by UCO music professor and accompanying concert conductor, Dr. Samuel Magrill.
The Men's Chamber Choir meanwhile will perform 20th century pieces by Frank Ferko and Francis Poulenc, as well as the popular "Aura Lee" and an arrangement of the spiritual, "Hold On!"
In addition, the Cantilena women's chorus will perform the sultry "Noche de Lluvia," which means rainy night, and the set, "Three Songs of Henry VIII."
"The three choral ensembles' variety of styles is sure to have audience members humming at least one favorite tune for the rest of the evening," said Dr. Karl Nelson, UCO director of choral studies.
Admission to the concert is free.
First Christian Church is located at 201 E. Second St. in Edmond, on the corner of Boulevard St. and Second St.
