UCO’S Kaleidoscope Dancers to Premiere ‘Precision
Ball Passing’ at Upcoming Spring Concert
March 2, 2007

The University of Central Oklahoma`s Kaleidoscope Dancers will present their spring concert at 7:30 p.m. March 15 through 17 in UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.
The concert will feature the company’s premiere of Choreographer Charles Moulton’s classic work, “Precision Ball Passing,” along with new ballet, tap and jazz choreography by dance faculty and students.
"Precision Ball Passing" was originally created in 1979 and has been performed throughout the world. In this rendition, nine participants pass brightly colored nerf balls from one person to the next. It is a dance, game and moving puzzle creating complex visual and temporal patterns.
"The unique thing about the ball passing work is the complexity of having to rely on the entire group to help one another," said UCO Director of Dance Jamie Jacobson.
"The work involves hand-eye coordination, exact timing and teamwork, while building a sense of community."
The resetting of the work was made possible by Dance/USA’s “American Masterpiece: Dance-College Component,” with funding by the National Endowment for the Arts, partnering with the New England Foundation for the Arts. UCO is one of just 28 universities selected for this prestigious grant.
Jacobson also created a new work being performed during the concert to celebrate her 20th year at UCO. The dance, performed by faculty members, is called "Two by Two," and reflects the faculty having to balance many roles while pursuing artistic endeavors.
