UCO Professor Presents Exhibit
September 17 , 2007

University of Central Oklahoma art professor Russell Bellamy will open an exhibition from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 5, at the Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery (IAO) at 811 north Broadway in Oklahoma City.
Bellamy’s exhibit, entitled "Simple Pleasures," features several interactive swings, as well as some freestanding stationary sculptures made of steel, stainless steel, and polycarbonate, which is a transparent plastic often used to make safety glasses and NASCAR windshields.
“The work is designed to combat the idea that art viewers are supposed to avoid touching or playing with artwork,” said Bellamy.
“The average viewer at an art exhibition spends around eight to fifteen seconds looking at a piece of artwork. I try to teach my students different ideas and techniques such as viewer interaction, craftsmanship and complexity that require the viewer to spend more time with the work.”
The exhibition runs through Oct. 26.
