Founder of "Arts for All" to Present Workshop at UCO
September 25 , 2007

The University of Central Oklahoma Art Department will hold a free workshop for teachers and students with Dwayne Szot, founder of the “Arts for All” organization, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Oct.13, in room 108 of the Chambers Library on the UCO campus.
Szot is a working artist and educator who has won international acclaim for his inventions that allow disabled children and adults to create art. The workshop will include hands-on demonstrations of those tools.
“Everyone comes out of his workshops lifted, inspired, and with a tremendous wealth of information to take to their schools and share with others,” said Dr. Isolete De Almeida, UCO art instructor.
“Many school districts in Oklahoma already have the original adaptive tools he created, but as those teachers that learned how to use the tools retire, new teachers need to be trained. In this workshop we are offering the opportunity for students and teachers to be trained by the inventor himself,” De Almeida said.
The workshop is limited to 20 people and is being sponsored in part by the Oklahoma Arts Council, the Oklahoma Center for Arts Education, and VSA arts.
Szot’s appearance at UCO is part of a two-day visit to Edmond. On Oct. 14, he will present a workshop at the Multi Activity Center.
