September 13 , 2007

The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Music will present the 2007 Invitational Marching Band Festival, "The Stampede Showdown," on Saturday, Oct. 6 at UCO's Wantland Stadium.
Some of the finest high school marching bands in Oklahoma will compete in a preliminary performance from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The top 12 will compete in the finals at 7 p.m.
Local high school bands attending include Edmond North, Edmond Memorial and Piedmont.
David Hanan, contest director and associate director of bands at UCO, said the festival’s main objective is to allow participants the opportunity to excel in their art.
"Our hope is that this competition will provide a venue to foster high performance standards while nurturing aesthetic development,” said Hanan.
Hanan said that the festival is an opportunity for teachers, parents and communities to show how much they appreciate these dedicated musicians.
General admission is $5 for the preliminary performance, $7 for the finals or $10 for an all-day pass. Admission is free for children under 4-years-old. Tickets may be purchased at the gate.
