UCO Presents the Devilish Theatrical Comedy "Scarecrow"
November 6, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma`s Department of Theatre, Dance and Media Arts (TDMA) presents "Scarecrow" by playwright Percy MacKaye at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 through Nov. 18, and at 2 p.m. Nov. 19 in UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.
"Scarecrow" is derived from a short story by American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. Hawthorne`s more noted works include "House of Seven Gables" and "The Scarlet Letter."
Set in haunted colonial America in the wake of the Salem witch trials, an old lady, who may or may not be a witch, teams up with the devil and brings a scarecrow to life as part of her diabolical revenge on a neighbor.
The scarecrow, on a mission to destroy true love posing as a visiting nobleman, begins his task only to discover the limits of both his humanity and inhumanity. A battle ensues as he attempts to shake the control of the devil and protect his newfound love.
"`Scarecrow` focuses on the
fascination with illicit behavior and Annaleigha DeLaune (Rachel) and Nathan
harsh repercussions, as well as the Hendrix (Dickon) in Scarecrow
triumph of love over the rules and
regulations of heaven, earth and even hell," said Bob McGill, chair of TDMA.
McGill added that audiences should look forward to the play`s engaging costumes and sets, and the special effects adding to the supernatural aura surrounding the story.
Dr. Don Bristow, a theatre professor, is the director for this play. Bristow has spent more than 35 years at UCO, directing nearly 100 productions. He also has been seen on stage, playing a number of roles at UCO and local theatres.
This production is for mature audiences only.
Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $4 for UCO students.
For tickets to the play, call the Mitchell Hall Box Office at (405) 974-3375.
