Percussion Consort to Present Concert at UCO
November 15, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music will present its Percussion Consort in concert at 8 p.m. Dec. 14, at Mit chell Hall Theater. (Rescheduled from Nov. 30)
The concert will feature the original work “Comfort Food,” by Sam Magrill, composer-in-residence and assistant director of the UCO School of Music.
Magrill said he wrote the piece to show off the school’s five-octave marimba.
In addition, the consort will perform selections by composers Nigel Westlake, William Kraft, Thomas Gauger, Michael Burritt and Claude Debussy.
In addition to performing as a large group, the Percussion Consort also performs some musical selections in duos and trios, and often highlights those selections with innovative movement and choreography.
Founded in 2003 by Dr. David Hardman, UCO director of percussion studies, the group performs regularly at both the Jazz Lab and Mitchell Hall Theater.
In addition, they perform a feature concert at the annual Oklahoma Percussive Arts Society Festival.
This concert is free and open to the public.
