Muralist Bob Palmer to be Subject of UCO Exhibit
August 28, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma Donna Nigh Gallery will host a photography exhibit highlighting the murals of UCO art professor Dr. Bob Palmer.
Palmer is well known for his mammoth works at the Bricktown Bass Pro Shop, State Capitol, Will Rogers World Airport, St. Anthony Hospital and many other locations throughout the state.
The exhibit titled, "The Big Picture," opens with a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 and runs through Oct. 29 in the Donna Nigh Gallery Exhibit Hall, on the Third Floor Gallery in the UCO Nigh University Center.
Palmer will give a "gallery talk" during the opening to help visitors better understand how he and his student apprentices create the building-sized murals.
Palmer has created a name and reputation throughout Oklahoma. His colorful murals can be found on the sides of rural schools and churches, popular restaurants and even automobile dealerships. He often incorporates images of yesteryear in his paintings, creating a sense of walking through time.
“Much of my work is historically based, and much of that is about Oklahoma, and Oklahoma definitely has a story to tell," Palmer said.
His paintings have won many regional and state awards, including recognition by the Arts Assemblies for his work at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Palmer has taught mural painting at UCO for the past fifteen years. He currently teaches painting and photography at the University.
