Famous Opera Singer to Visit UCO
January 31, 2007
The University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music will hold a master class presented by visiting opera singer Sherrill Milnes from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 15, in Room 101 of the Music Building on the UCO campus.
Milnes, the foremost Verdi baritone of the 70’s, is the most recorded American baritone in history and has performed in every major opera house throughout the world.
He has worked with singers such as Luciano Pavarotti, Joan Sutherland and the famed soprano Rosa Ponselle.
Currently, Milnes is a member of the voice faculty at Northwestern University in Chicago.
"It is very exciting for our students to have the opportunity to work with one Sherrill Milnes as Iago in Verdi`s OTELLO
of the most famous opera singers in (From the Metropolitan Opera Archives)
history and to learn from his wealth of
knowledge and experiences," said Kevin Eckard, assistant professor for the UCO School of Music.
"To have Leona Mitchell as our artist-in-residence last year and Milnes working with our students this year is really a sign of how our music program is growing."
The master class is the result of a partnership through a grant received by Oklahoma State University.
