UCO WIND SYMPHONY TO PRESENT A CENTENNIAL "SHINDIG"
October 10 , 2007

The University of Central Oklahoma's Wind Symphony will present “Centennial Shindig” at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16, at UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater.
Led by Dr. Brian Lamb, the director of bands at UCO, the symphony will perform “Fiesta” from the Centennial Symphony “Shindig,” with horn soloist Dr. Tom Mangus, and “Oklahoma Fanfare: A Century of Excellence,” a piece that was originally written in 2000 and then revised for the Oklahoma Centennial Band to use during its 2007 season of Centennial concerts.
“Fanfare captures the energy of the land run, and the lyrical hope and optimism of a new land, a new state and new opportunities,” said Lamb.
“In addition to the bold fanfare motives and exciting rhythmic figures, one can hear musical themes derived from ‘Oklahoma,’ the official song of the Sooner State.”
The UCO Wind Symphony is a performing ensemble in the band division of the UCO School of Music. Members are selected by audition.
In 2006, the group accepted an invitation to perform to an audience of 2,000 at New York City's Carnegie Hall.
For tickets to the concert, call the Mitchell Hall Theater box office at (405) 974-3375.
