UCO Presents a Night of Italian Opera
November 2, 2006

The University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music presents “A Night in Italy,” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14 through 16 at the UCO Jazz Lab.
Students from the UCO Opera Workshop will present a concert celebrating Italian opera, from Monteverdi to Puccini. The performance will include The Barber of Seville, a two-act comic opera by Gioacchino Rossini, and Gianni Schicchi, the final one-act opera from Giacomo Puccini’s trilogy, Il Trittico.
“This performance is a collection of music from Italian opera and art song,” said Kevin Eckard, director of UCO’s opera program.
“We just want to create a piazza feel and let people enjoy the music and language of Italy.”
Marilyn Govich, head of UCO’s Opera and Music Theatre, said the concert would feature two major scenes with both historical costumes and modern dress.
“For people who love opera, it will be a delightful evening,” said Govich.
The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
