UCO to hold Dedication and Unveiling of New Sculpture
September 27, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma will hold a dedication and unveiling ceremony of the sculpture "Kinetic Air" at 6 p.m. Oct. 6 in front of Mitchell Hall Theater.
The sculpture was created in a joint effort between UCO and the City of Edmond as a community beautification project.
Edmond artist Rich Muno created the life-size classic bronze sculpture that features two posed dancers in a star lift.
The sculpture will be dedicated in memory of Hannah McCarty, a high school student who passed away at age 16.
Pam McCarty, Hannah`s mother, said Hannah loved participating in UCO`s dance workshops, adding that her last performance on stage was at UCO’s Mitchell Hall Theater during the 2003 summer dance workshop. Hannah McCarty
"The sculpture dedication and the scholarship mean a great deal to my husband Jack and me because they will serve to continue Hannah`s legacy for years to come. To know Hannah is to know of her love for people, her love for dance and theater, and her love for God," said McCarty.
The couple has funded the "Hannah McCarty Performing Arts Endowed Scholarship" in honor of their daughter. The scholarship will benefit one UCO dance or theater student each year, once the endowment is complete.
Following the sculpture unveiling, the UCO Kaleidoscope Dancers will perform in their first concert of the season. The "Choreography Concert Plus!" at 7:30 p.m. in Mitchell Hall Theater also will be dedicated to Hannah`s memory.
Hannah’s personal collection of dance memorabilia will be on display inside Mitchell Hall Theater for viewing prior to the performance.
