UCO to offer New Degrees in Piano
January 22, 2007
By combining both performance and pedagogy training, the University of Central Oklahoma is now the first institution in the region to offer music students both undergraduate and master’s music degrees in piano and piano performance/pedagogy.
“The program provides music students opportunities and an environment that cultivates them to become piano teachers
who will bring music education through piano to our future generations and business people who know how to run their own enterprises,” said Chindrat Charoenwongse, piano and keyboard division head of UCO.
“We can proudly say that our graduates will not only know how to perform at the piano but they will also be educated in teaching piano performance equally well.”
The Bachelor of Music and Piano and Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy degrees present hands-on experience in teaching with a mentor in the Central Community Music School.
The Master’s of Music in Piano Performance and Master’s in Music Education degrees are flexible programs that allow students to concentrate in his or her area of music specialization.
Graduate students are also able to teach in the Central Community School to enhance the practical elements in the course of studies.
Both the undergraduate and graduate degrees provide opportunities for students to perform and participate in master-classes by Artist-in-Residence Valery Kuleshov and other visiting artists.
