Clinton Named Dean of UCO College of Arts, Media & Design
December 7, 2006
After serving ten months as Interim Dean, Dr. John Clinton has been appointed Dean of the UCO College of Arts, Media & Design.

In making the announcement, Dr. William J. Radke, provost and vice president for academic affairs at UCO said, “Dr. Clinton brings a wealth of experience to the position of Dean of the College of Arts, Media & Design.”
“His knowledge of the arts, leadership skills and management style, combined with his energy and warmth, will take the college in a new and positive direction,” said Radke.
Clinton earned a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of North Texas in 1991. He has broad experience in both secondary and higher education, including serving as the director of Fine Arts for Norman Public Schools.
He is also the conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, a position he has held since 1992. In addition, he has served for many years as the director of the Oklahoma Center for Arts Education on the UCO Campus.
Clinton said he is pleased and honored to be chosen Dean and is looking forward to working with a dedicated faculty and staff.
“I can`t begin to tell you how excited I am about what we can all do together,” said Clinton.
“I know that we have a lot of work that needs to be done to give our faculty and students opportunities to succeed at the highest levels. I pledge my best efforts with your assistance to lead this college toward fulfilling our mission.”
Clinton has received numerous professional honors, including the University of Oklahoma School of Music Distinguished Alumni Fellow, the Governor’s Arts Award for Arts and Education, the National Federation of State High School Association’s Outstanding Music Educator, and the Oklahoma Music Educators’ Association "Administrator of the Year."
Norman Public Schools paid tribute to his work in the naming of the
John E. Clinton Theatre. He also was recently selected to the Oklahoma Music Educators’ Association Hall of Fame.
Clinton takes over his new position from Dr. Chris Markwood, who left UCO in January to become the Provost and Vice Chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.
