UCO to Host 2006 Invitational Marching Band Festival

The University of Central Oklahoma`s School of Music will present the 2006 Invitational Marching Band Festival, "The Stampede Showdown," on Saturday Sept. 23, at UCO`s Wantland Stadium.
More than 20 of the finest high school marching bands in Oklahoma will compete in a preliminary performance from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The top 12 will compete in the finals at 7 p.m. Edmond North High School Marching Band
Local high school bands attending include Edmond North, Westmore, Putnam City and Mustang.
David Hanan, contest director and associate director of bands at UCO, said the festival’s main objective is to encourage participants to support all types of band music and to excel in their art.
"The purpose of this competition is to provide a music venue that fosters high performance standards, nurtures aesthetic development, and reinforces the many functions of music within our society," said Hanan.
Hanan says that the festival is an opportunity for teachers, parents and communities to show how much they appreciate these dedicated musicians.
General admission is $5 for the preliminary performance, $7 to the finals or $10 for an all-day pass. Admission is free for children under 4-years-old. Tickets may be purchased at the gate.
