October 12, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma`s Department of Theatre, Dance and Media Arts presents "Gettin` Hazy,” a drug, alcohol, and tobacco awareness program, at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 16 in Constitution Hall at the Nigh University Center on the UCO Campus.

In its second year, this one-act play written by James Dickson, a UCO theatre student, looks at provocative and engaging ways of confronting issues and conflicts resulting from substance abuse.
UCO theatre professor Daisy Bristow created the alcohol awareness program and coordinates the annual production at UCO.
"This production is a thought-provoking drama that gets people to look at the pressures around us," said Bristow.
Refreshments and jazz music will precede the performance at 8 p.m.
A portion of "Gettin` Hazy" also will be performed at "Make a Difference Day" at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 28 in the parking lot at 33rd and Broadway in Edmond.
The event is the originating point for a march to put up door hangers on homes in Edmond aimed at drawing attention to the dangers of underage drinking that claims more than 5,000 lives yearly.
"We feel that this is a vital demonstration of how in touch we are with the elements of community service and leadership that are at the heart of President Webb`s vision of this University," said Bob McGill, UCO Theatre, Dance and Media Arts chair and member of Edmond Mayor Saundra Naifeh’s task force on underage drinking.
Both productions are free and open to the public.
