UCO’s Donna Nigh Gallery to Host Ceramic Exhibit
October 30, 2006
The University of Central Oklahoma’s Department of Art will host the work of two students in an upcoming exhibit titled, “Fire Stream…Dance and Harmony,” beginning Nov. 9 in the Donna Nigh Gallery, located on the fourth floor of the Nigh University Center.
Jelena Stojanovic and Sarah Stimpson, recipients of the John Frank Memorial Scholarship sponsored by the Frankoma Family Collectors Association, will show pieces in the exhibit.
Stojanovic, a native of Serbia, recently attended a workshop in New Jersey where she studied a wood-firing process called Anagama.
“The plasticity of porcelain allows me the opportunity to play with the immense possibilities of shape,” Stojanovic said.
“Fullness and fluidity are accentuated with the use of shadows created around each piece.”
Zina Gelona, director of UCO galleries and collections, said, “Jelena’s work is very earthy, organic.”
Also a graduate student, Stimpson specializes in ceramic glazes.
“With glazes, I incorporate various techniques such as dipping, slip trailing and over-spraying. The combinations of these create a depth, a diverse palate of color and provide textural qualities to the surface of my forms,” Stimpson said.
The exhibit will run through Nov 30.
