UCO Grad’s Design Work Showing Up in the Music Industry
August 25, 2006
University of Central Oklahoma design graduate Carrie Smith is putting her design skills to work in the music industry.
Smith, who works for Welk Music Group in Santa Monica, Calif., which includes Vanguard Records and Sugar Hill Records, conceived the design, and did the artwork, logo and photo manipulation for two recently released CDs by blues singers Tab Benoit and Shawn Mullins.
Smith says it was her education at UCO, including time spent working in the university’s semi-professional design studio, ClockTower, which prepared her for the professional design world.
“I knew the moment I stepped into this program at UCO that it was where I was supposed to be,” Smith said.
“I wouldn’t be where I am today intellectually, emotionally and certainly career-wise, if it weren’t for the creative and challenging environment the UCO Design School provided,” added Smith.
Smith has several upcoming projects including a DVD case for Lawrence Welk’s “TV Treasures.”
