UCO JAZZ LAB NAMED “BEST” BY READERS OF TWO LOCAL NEWSPAPERS
August 16, 2007
Readers of The Oklahoman and the Oklahoma Gazette have once again selected the University of Central Oklahoma Jazz Lab as a winner in their annual readers’ choice awards.
Write-in ballots appeared in both newspapers, asking readers to nominate their favorite places, people and events in various categories. The top five vote-getters’ names were placed on a ballot. Readers then chose the winners in each category, naming the Jazz Lab as “Best Place for Jazz/Blues Music” in The Oklahoman and “Best Place for Live Music” in the Oklahoma Gazette.
The Jazz Lab opened five years ago and houses the UCO Jazz Studies Program and a recording studio.
Since its debut, it has hosted such musical greats as Diane Schuur, Chris Botti, Chick Corea, Judy Collins, Wynton Marsalis and Steve Tyrell. Singer Karla Banff is scheduled to play at the Lab Sept. 22.
Lee Rucker, Jazz Lab Director, said it’s an honor to be chosen the best. “We are thrilled that people appreciate what a special place this is and support us the way that they do.”
The Jazz Lab features live music every Thursday through Saturday nights (and other nights as scheduled), with a full-service bar and food from Hideaway Pizza. You can reserve seats by calling (405) 359-7989. For more information, visit the Lab online at www.ucojazzlab.com.
