UCO Art Professor Named Art Educator of the Year

September 20, 2006

University of Central Oklahoma art professor and well-known muralist,

Dr. Bob Palmer, has been selected as

“Art Educator of the Year 2007” by the Oklahoma Art Education Association (OAEA).

He will receive his award Sept. 23 during a luncheon at the OAEA fall conference in Weatherford.

Palmer was selected for the award based on, among other things, his service, art advocacy and longevity in the promotion of outstanding quality arts education.

Palmer said the fact that the recognition      Dr. Bob Palmer, “Art Educator of the Year”

comes from his peers makes it extra

special.

“I’m deeply honored and humbled that they selected me,” Palmer said.

“To be nominated is an honor, but to actually win the award is just terrific, and I look forward to seeing many of my colleagues at the awards ceremony,” said Palmer.

Palmer is best known for the building-size murals that he’s created throughout the state of Oklahoma. His work can be seen at the Will Rogers World Airport, OKC Rocks, St. Anthony Hospital and at the Bass Pro Shop in downtown Oklahoma City.

A photographic exhibit showcasing his murals and how he and his student apprentices create these mammoth works is currently on display in the Donna Nigh Gallery Exhibit Hall in the UCO Nigh University Center.

Palmer has taught mural painting at UCO for the past fifteen years. He currently teaches painting and photography at the University.
