UCO School Of Music to Present Evening of Mozart
April 20, 2007
The University of Central Oklahoma`s School of Music will wrap up its spring semester with the Choral Masterworks concert at 7:30 p.m., April 28, in the Mitchell Hall Theater on the UCO campus.
The concert will include various works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and will be highlighted by one of his most famous pieces, Requiem in D Minor, KV 626, performed by the Edmond Community Chorale and UCO Concert Chorale.
The Requiem was used as the featured music in Peter Shaffer’s 1984 film, Amadeus, as well as numerous commercials and other popular movies.
The piece will be sung in Latin and English translations and will be projected above the performers.
"Mozart`s Requiem is one of the most recognized and debated choral pieces of Western music and will be performed by both the dynamic forces of a chorus and orchestra," said Dr. Karl Nelson, UCO director of choral studies.
"For some, it will be an opportunity to hear powerful live music people will recognize, but never knew where it was from, and for others it will be a familiar piece which will stir the emotions that only music can bring."
The instrumental music for the evening will be provided by the UCO Chamber Orchestra. John Clinton, dean of the UCO College of Arts, Media and Design and conductor of the Oklahoma Youth Orchestra, will act as guest conductor for the orchestra’s selection of Horn Concerto No. 4 in E Flat Major, KV 495. The selection features UCO assistant professor Ted Honea on the natural horn.
Admission will be $10 for adults, $6 for senior citizens and $4 for UCO students.
For tickets, call the Mitchell Hall Theater Box Office at (405) 974-3375.
