Dr. Mel Lee

Dr. Melvin Lee has served on the faculty of the University of Central Oklahoma School of Music for over 35 years. Dr. Lee currently serves as a student teaching supervisor, horn instructor, and he teaches a graduate course in music education research. As director of bands for many years, he was responsible for conducting the Symphonic Band, the Marching Band, and teaching a variety of teacher training courses in methods and conducting. He taught French horn at UCO from 1969 until 2003. Dr. Lee has degrees from Oklahoma City University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Oklahoma. Still active as a horn player, he performs with the Oklahoma City Community Orchestra and the UCO faculty brass quintet, and for over 20 years he was a member of the Oklahoma City Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the symphonies in Amarillo, Enid, and Lawton. Many of his former students are members of orchestras all over the United States and some in Germany.
