Grace Wiley Smith has been the flute instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma for 9 years. Mrs. Smith earned her B.M.E. and M.M.E. degrees from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Since the mid 1980’s, she has created several works for flute under the name G. Wiley Smith. Whisper on the Land for Flute and Piano has been included in the National Flute Association Collection at the University of Arizona’s Library and the New Plains Review, University of Central Oklahoma, 1986. It is published by Medici Music Press. Legende for Alto Flute alone has also been included in the New Plains Review, University of Central Oklahoma, 1989. A Distant Dream for Flute and Piano has been included in the Contemporary Anthology of Music by Women, Indiana University Press, 1996. It has also appeared in the National Flute Association Repertoire Guide and has been performed at the 2001 National Flute Association Convention. Other works include Winter Moon for flute and Piano (1996), Eagles Leave No Path for Flute and Piano (1999), and Where Rivers End for Flute or Alto Flute (2000), which was performed at the 2002 National Flute Association Convention held in Washington D.C. Momis Komet for Flute and Piano (2001) was premiered at the National Flute Association Convention, which was held in Dallas in 2001. It is published by Falls House Press.

These compositions are influenced by her Native American Muscogee Creek culture, and have been performed all over the United States by high school, university and professional flutists. Presently Grace performs with various chamber ensembles as well as the Southern Nazarene University Metropolitan Orchestra. She has performed her compositions at several multicultural events, and she teaches Native American cultural and language classes for Indian Education with the Edmond Public Schools.
