Bernie Guzik

Bernie Guzik has taught tuba and euphonium at the University of
Central Oklahoma since 1992. He is a graduate of the prestigious
Juilliard School of Music, where he studied with Joe Novotny, tubist
with the New York Philharmonic. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Mr.
Guzik graduated from Cleveland Heights High School and studied with
Chester Roberts of the Cleveland Orchestra. As the principal tuba
of the Tulsa Philharmonic since 1984, Guzik maintains an active
performance schedule.
He has played with the American Symphony Orchestra
under the baton of Leopold Stokowski, and he was the assistant principal
tuba of the New York Philharmonic. He has toured and recorded with
the Kansas City Philharmonic and the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. He
is the principal tubist on Clevelands Grammy-winning recording with Pierre Boulez conducting. In addition to his teaching duties, Mr. Guzik plays tuba in the UCO Faculty Brass Quintet.
