cweidell@ucok.edu

Charleen Weidell is a Metalsmith and Assistant Professor of Art. She is head of the Metals and Sculpture programs. Living near the Pacific Ocean, the mountains of Arizona, and the Colorado Rockies inspired her to become an observer of nature. “The subtle nuances and the bold expressions of nature stimulate my ideas and generate a passion for work. Landscape provides me with both powerful and humbling experiences with its rage of monumental and intimate spaces. Formally I manipulate metal into a sensuous from through the repeated blows of the hammer. It is the carefully observed process of transformation that intrigues me though the collaboration of an idea and the response of the material. The idea and the material become fused into a piece that is realized through form and surface.”
