Professor
William Hommel received his BA from Oakland University and his MA
and Ph.D. from Indiana University. His dissertation was in the field
of African art and he has continued to concentrate on non-European
artistic traditions. He teaches courses on African art, Multicultural
art and Art by Women. The new Art History major, which he directs,
focuses on global artistic traditions rather than the usual European
concentration. Most of his courses are taught on the internet, which
include chat room discussions with the student. Study tours, which
are conducted in conjunction with specific web courses, offer the
students opportunities to experience art first hand.
