Professor
William Wallo received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the
Schools of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Sculpture and Architectural
Design program, and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University
of Indiana in painting, drawing and printmaking with post graduate
work in photography and filmmaking.
Wallo has
been a teacher and artist active in a wide variety of visual arts
fields for more than 30 years. These fields include graphic arts,
multimedia design, Museum Studies and arts administration.
He is currently
Director the 2-D program and Assistant Chairperson for the Department
of Art at the University of Central Oklahoma . Wallo has taught
in the painting, drawing and photography areas and developed the
photography, mural and multimedia design courses for the Art and
Design Department curriculums.
His administrative
activities include over 20 years as Director of the Central Museum
of Art and Design and development and direction of the Presentation
Production Center and its Multimedia Lab. These facilities required
his coordination of museum exhibits, publication and media productions
with academic goals of the Art Department , Museum Studies, Internship
and Institutional Research areas. His development of the Presentation
Production Center Lab was designed to help faculty and students
integrate creative research, presentation technology and publication
with technology transfer, commercialization and community service.
In his capacity as Director of the Central Museum , he has curated
more than two hundred exhibits and been guest curator for the National
Cowboy Hall of Fame and other institutions. He has received state
and national awards for media productions and catalogue publications
from the Oklahoma Museum Association, the National Association of
Museums, as well as, state and regional Addy awards. He is currently
Coordinator of the Melton Legacy Collection Gallery recently given
to UCO.
He has formulated
and administrated grants from the Gannett Foundation, the Phillips
Foundation, the Oklahoma State Arts Council, and the Oklahoma Foundation
for the Humanities, as well as, corporate and private sources.
His professional
activities have included organizational membership and officer positions
in the American Association of Museums, UNESCO/ICOM, Amenities International,
the Museum Computer Network, Art in Public Places and the Oklahoma
Museum Association. His local public service activities include
seven years of services as an Edmond City commissioner with the
Edmond Arts and Humanities Council, in the capacities of Parliamentarian,
Vice President and President, and Chair of the Edmond Postal Memorial
Committee.
He has also
served several terms as vice President of the UCO Faculty Senate
and received the American Association of University Professors UCO
Distinguished Creativity Award in 2002.
